Rules and Regulations


A. INTRODUCTION
∙ OVERVIEW
Awit Awards is an expression of the Filipino’s undying passion for music – music etched in every Filipino’s heart. Awit Awards is a prestigious award-giving body, spearheaded by the Philippine Association of the Record Industry (PARI), recognizing the recording artist and the people behind the production of Filipino recorded music.


∙ OBJECTIVES
To recognize exceptional works of music and the people working behind it
To promote the Philippine music industry, artistry, and legacy
To champion music-making and production, at par with global trends excellence
To showcase talents in an event dedicated to music
To reinforce the fight against piracy

B. DEFINITIONS
As used in these Rules and Regulations,

  1. “FILIPINO” means
    a. Any resident or non-resident Filipino holding a Philippine passport, birth certificate, certificate of naturalization, and/or any two (2) valid government-issued IDs with a photo.
    b. Any resident or non-resident foreigner who can show proof of Filipino heritage i.e., the applicant must be a descendant of a Filipino parent or grandparent.
    c. If used to describe a song, “Filipino song” means a musical composition written by a Filipino, which may be in Filipino, English, or another Philippine language or dialect.
  2. “RECORDING ARTIST” means the primarily credited performer in a track or album.
  3. “COMPOSER” means the person/s who wrote the music, which includes the lyrics and melody.
  4. “PRODUCER” means the recording project’s creative and technical leader, also known as “Record Producer,” “Supervising Producer,” and/or “Line Producer.”
  5. “EXECUTIVE PRODUCER” means the copyright owner of the track or album, or, if the copyright owner is a corporation, the President, Managing Director, Head, or duly designated representative of the Company.
  6. “MEMBER” means a recording company who is currently a PARI member.
  7. “COMMITTEE” means the AWIT AWARDS COMMITTEE.
  8. “SECRETARIAT” means the AWIT AWARDS SECRETARIAT.

C. GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS

  1. WHO MAY SUBMIT ENTRIES
    ∙ Entries may be submitted by Corporate and Associate members in good standing.
  2. RELEASES
    ∙ Entries must have been released and/or distributed in the market by a PARI member recording company (“Member” or “Member company”). For the avoidance of doubt, a non-member may submit entries through a Member if they have a business arrangement with such Member, such as licensing, distribution, and/or marketing.
  3. INCLUSIVE DATES OF ENTRIES/DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION OF ENTRIES
    ∙ Except as provided in Section J.1.a, all entries must have been released in the Philippine market between 01 January _ to December 31, . (“Inclusive Dates”) The deadline for submission of entries is ______.
  4. NUMBER OF ENTRIES
    ∙ Subject to the payment of the entry fees, there shall be no limit to the number of entries that a Member may submit for each category. However, only five (5) entries by the same Artist from the same label shall be allowed per category.
  5. REMIX RECORDING
    ∙ Remix recordings are not accepted in all categories except in the “Best Remix Recording” Category.
    ∙ A “remix recording” is an alternate version of the original recording usually with altered tempo, pitch, equalization, or with added audio elements like dance beats and sound effects.
  6. LICENSES
    ∙ If an entry is an Adaptation or a Cover Version, all necessary Licenses should be first obtained from the respective Publisher/s of the said musical work.
  7. REPACKAGED ALBUMS
    ∙ In the case of a repackaged album, only songs released within the inclusive dates may be nominated as entries.

D. ENTRY FORMS

  1. Entry forms may be obtained from the Awit Secretariat c/o the PARI Office, through the following:

  2. Entry forms must be filled up and duly signed by the head or duly designated representative of the Member company.

E. ENTRY FEES AND MATERIALS

  1. A fee of ONE THOUSAND PESOS (Php 1,000.00) shall be charged per entry.
  2. Each entry must be submitted in physical format via courier or in digital format via email. Each entry shall consist of the application form, entry fee, and the following materials:
    ∙ Audio file (in .wav or MP3 format)
    ∙ Link to Spotify
    ∙ Label copy (in PDF format)
    ∙ Cover Art (in JPEG or PNG format)
    ∙ Lyrics (in MS Word or PDF formats)
    (Title and lyrics only, without credits or other identifiers)
    ∙ Audiovisual file (in MPEG4 format) (for Best Music Video)
    ∙ Recent Publicity photo in JPEG format Hi-resolution
  3. Failure to submit the required materials and/or non-payment of the entry fee shall be ground/s for disqualification.

F. ACCEPTANCE OF ENTRIES

  1. The Committee shall conduct an initial screening to ensure compliance with entry requirements and the proper categorization of entries. The Committee shall inform the Member of any action taken on an entry.
  2. The Committee shall have the option to disqualify an entry for non-compliance with the entry requirements, incomplete information, or lack of required materials.
  3. The Committee shall have the final say in the acceptance of an entry for a specific category; however, at its sole discretion, the Awit Committee may allow an entry to be transferred to a more appropriate category.
  4. The Committee shall send its Members the list of qualified entries as soon as the same is finalized.
  5. The Committee shall cancel a category should there be less than three (3) entries submitted for such category. The entry fee paid for such entry shall be refunded in full.

G. DISQUALIFICATION OF ENTRY/ENTRIES
∙ Finalists may be disqualified at any time — before, during, and after the judging — if proven guilty of a breach of these Rules and Regulations. A complaint may be filed by any person addressed to the Awards Committee with sufficient verifiable proof. An investigation shall be conducted by the Awit Committee, which shall, after giving the parties concerned due process, submit its findings and recommendations to the PARI Board which shall render the final decision on the matter.

H. SCREENING AND JUDGING

  1. Members of the Screening Committees and Boards of Judges for each set of categories shall be selected by the Awit Secretariat and shall be chosen based on their qualifications and the requirements of each category.
  2. Each Screening Committee shall have no less than five (5) and no more than nine (9) members. Each Board of Judges shall have no less than five (5) and no more than nine (9) members. The number of members of the Screening Committees and Boards of Judges shall depend on the volume of entries in each category.
  3. The Screening Committee shall choose the finalists based on the criteria set per category. The entries receiving the top five (5) highest scores, the computation of which shall be as provided in the next section, shall be declared as finalists. Each award category shall have a maximum of five (5) finalists, except in the event of a tie. However, the Screening Committee may, at its sole discretion, allow less than the maximum number of finalists per category.
  4. To qualify as a finalist, the entry should have a minimum average score of at least seventy percent (70%). The average shall be derived by disregarding the top and bottom scores and averaging the remaining scores. If there is a tie between the top and/or bottom scores, only one (1) of the top and/or bottom scores shall be disregarded.
  5. Should no entry qualify as finalist in the initial screening, the Screening Committee concerned may adjust the minimum average score.
  6. The Screening Committees shall not re-classify any entry they deem erroneously nominated but will simply disqualify the entry.
  7. If an entry is alleged to violate the AWIT Rules and Regulations, the Screening Committee concerned shall proceed to rate the entry on the condition that if the violation is proven correct after due investigation, the entry shall be disqualified, and the entry with the next highest score will be included among the finalists.
  8. After the screening, the Board of Judges shall rate the finalists in each category. The finalist with the highest score shall be declared the winner by the Board of Judges. There may be more than one (1) winner if there is a tie.
  9. The screening and judging shall be supervised by the Official Auditors, who shall receive, tabulate, and supervise the results of the screening and judging and shall take custody of the sealed envelopes of the winners until the Awards Night.
  10. Subject to Section H.7., the decision of the Board of Judges shall be final.

I. SCORING CRITERIA
The following scoring criteria shall be observed:

  1. 40% for Composition (for song categories)
  2. 30% for Performance
  3. 20% for Production
  4. 10% for Popular Vote/Choice (based on votes from the Public via the official Awit Awards voting platform)

J. THE AWARDS CEREMONY

  1. The Awit Awards will hold an annual awards ceremony. The date, time, and venue shall be announced at a later date by the Awit Secretariat.
  2. Awardees must be present during the awards ceremony unless otherwise excused by the Awit Committee. Failure to attend may result in forfeiture of the award, except in cases of unavoidable circumstances as determined by the Awit Committee.

K. MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS

  1. All entries become part of the AWIT Awards archives and may be retained in perpetuity by the PARI.
  2. By submitting an entry, the Member Company grants PARI the right to use, reproduce, and publicly display any part of the entries for publicity and promotional purposes.

L. AMENDMENTS
The PARI reserves the right to amend these Rules and Regulations, subject to prior notification of the Members.

M. EFFECTIVITY
These Rules and Regulations shall take effect immediately.
