The Philippines has a rich history of efforts to protect copyrights dating back to 1965. The Filipino Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (FILSCAP) is a non- profit association of composers, lyricists and music publishers founded in 1965. FILSCAP is recognised by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines as a Collective Management Organization (CMO) for music creators and copyright owners. Its primary function is to license public performances, broadcasts, and streaming of the songs in its vast repertoire, which currently covers over 20 million copyrighted local and foreign songs.

PARI, or the Philippine Association of the Record Industry, is another non-profit and private trade organisation representing recording industry distributors in the Philippines. Founded on February 10, 1972, PARI has actively worked with Congress to draft music copyright laws. One of its key responsibilities is to award music recording certification in the Philippines and it also organises the annual Awit Awards.
